Computer Lab Facilitator

Purpose of Position:

Assist volunteer tutors and adult learners in accessing and using instructional computer-based tutorial programs in READ/San Diego's computer lab at the Malcolm X Library.

Qualifications:
  • Eighteen years of age and older
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • High school diploma or GED, high school equivalency diploma
  • Caring and culturally sensitive attitude
  • Flexible and patient
  • Knowledge of computers, computer software and the Internet
  • Completion of 15-hour tutor training (negotiable)
  • Dependable and able to keep a two-day per week commitment for a minimum of six months.
  • Detailed oriented

Responsible To: Computer Lab Coordinator

Responsibilities:
  1. Tabulate and record learner attendance hours and update adult learner program records.

  2. Maintain instructional software and assist with administrative functions.

  3. Orient and train new students and tutors on the computers and software, and assist current students and tutors as needed.

  4. Train students and tutors on using the Internet.

Training Provided: Extensive one-on-one training is provided using the hardware and instructional software at various instructional levels.
