The Language Arts – Writing portion of the exam consists of two parts.

Part I contains 50 multiple choice questions covering writing organization, word usage, sentence structure and writing mechanics (grammar). Students have 75 minutes to complete this portion of the exam.

Part II requires the student to write an essay on a given topic. They have 45 minutes to complete this portion of the exam. The essay will be scored on a scale from 0 – 4, with scores of 2 and up considered passing. Failure to pass the essay will result in a zero for the entire Language Arts – Writing section of the exam.
