Molly’s proposed schedule:
- 9am – 9:30am - Independent writing (students are given a writing prompt and work to meet individual writing goals)
- 9:30 – 10am – Pairs discussion (randomly assigned pairs of students get together to discuss the writing topic and then share each other’s thoughts with the class, building critical thinking and communication skills)
- 10am – 11am – Guided reading work (students are in teams of 2-4, based on reading levels. They use personalized assignments to guide their reading and interaction. The instructor spends at least 10 minutes with each group during the hour.)
- 11am – 11:30 – Whole class lesson in math concepts and applications
- 11:30am - Noon – Individual math work, peers assigned as tutors where appropriate.
