Who is the Adult Learner?
If you are new to adult literacy, you may not be familiar with the characteristics of adult education students. You are, however, intimately familiar with at least one adult learner right now – yourself. Remember that you, too, are an adult learner, and you may share many of the characteristics of the students you support.
Consider yourself as an adult learner.
What are your strengths? Your weaknesses? How do you prefer to learn? Are you an auditory learner? A kinesthetic learner?
What do you think would be important for an instructor to know about you as a learner?
