Adult Literacy and Technology Network (ALTN) ALTN focuses on the application of technology in adult literacy programs. Hosts conferences, offers training and technical assistance, and helps to manage the National Institute for Literacy's Technology Training Special Collection. Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (AGRM) AGRM is a membership organization that provides emergency food and shelter, youth and family services, rehabilitation programs for the addicted, education and job training programs, and assistance to the elderly, poor, and at-risk youth. The Center for Adult English Language Acquisition (CAELA) Network Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE), CAELA helps state staff, teachers, and administrators build their capacity to promote English language learning and strengthen the academic achievement of adults learning English. Site provides research studies, instructional curricula, language acquisition resources, tools for professional developers, statistics and data, information about technical assistance opportunities, and more. For teachers, administrators, students, and researchers, offers a resource database of more than 100 ESL documents that can be searched and downloaded. Institute for a Competitive Workforce (ICW) U.S. Chamber of Commerce Aids state and local chambers in their effort to become leaders of workforce development. ICW works to educate and inform state and local chambers about issues such as the Workforce Investment Act, workplace literacy, school-to-work, and employment of individuals with disabilities. Also develops tools and reports, including A Chamber Guide to Improving Literacy: Higher Skills, Bottom-Line Results, assessments and training for its National Work Readiness Credential, and the Online Navigator, which links businesses and educators to workforce training resources and industry credentials. League for Innovation in the Community College An international organization that supports community colleges, the League of Innovation in Community College provides member colleges, corporate partners, and other agencies with conferences and institutes, Web resources, conducts research, publications, and other services. League projects include improving remedial community college education and bridging the digital divide among Americans. The Literacy List This online, up-to-date list of resources is based on suggestions made by adult basic education and English Literacy instructors. Designed for ABE instructors and their learners. Resources include: websites, Internet tools for instructors, electronic lists, lesson plans, software reviews, fundraising and grant information, webpage design tools, online training resources, and the like. Literacy USA Supports coalitions of literacy service providers in major metropolitan areas throughout the country. Is a strong advocacy voice, facilitates networking of coalition leaders through two meetings a year and an electronic list, provides technical assistance to emerging coalitions and those in crisis, funnels resources to local coalitions, and engages major funders. National Center for Adult Literacy (NCAL) NCAL conducts research on a variety of aspects of adult education, including the use of technology in adult education, English literacy instruction, family literacy, and international comparative studies. Reports, publications, and training materials are available. National Center for Community Education (NCCE) The National Center for Community Education provides training and information materials on community schools and community education. National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) NCFL promotes, advocates, and sustains family literacy programs across the U.S. Advocates for family literacy policies at the national and state level, designs and demonstrates new practices, provides staff development and technical assistance, and conducts research on family literacy programs and practices. National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) NCLD strives to increase awareness of learning disabilities, make stronger connections between research and practice, and work closely with policymakers on LD issues. National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL) NCSALL is a joint project of Harvard Graduate School of Education and World Education that aims to connect researchers and practitioners and aid the development of a research agenda for the field. National Community Education Association (NCEA) NCEA is a nonprofit membership organization that provides leadership, training, and informational materials to its members, who include individuals, schools and districts. Office of Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS) American Library Association OLOS promotes literacy initiatives and equal access to information by organizing resources for and providing technical assistance to libraries that want to expand services to elderly, disabled, homeless, and other traditionally underserved populations. Also sponsors lecture series and various conferences. ProLiteracy Worldwide Serves adult volunteer literacy organizations and adult learners throughout the world. Sponsors a broad range of programs and services for adult learners and their families. Also produces and distributes educational books and materials to literacy organizations and other adult education providers across the country. Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) TESOL provides professional development support to teachers of adults who seek to learn or improve their English skills. Services include workshops, online learning opportunities, publications, and Internet-based member communities. World Education A nonprofit organization, World Education provides economic and social assistance to the poor in the United States and throughout the world. Issues that World Education works on include education for the workplace, literacy and adult basic education, environmental education, community development, maternal and child health, school governance, integrated literacy, small enterprise development, HIV/AIDS education and prevention and care, and refugee training. |
